SAN MARCOS ASSOCIATION 2022 ANNUAL MEETING

Greetings Everyone – The San Marcos Association (SMA) would like to invite you to attend (via Zoom) our 2022 Annual Meeting.  This meeting will take place on Thursday, February 17, 2022, at 6:00 PM.  At this meeting, SMA elects Officers and Board Members and hosts guest speakers to inform our community about some of the issues we face.

Guest speakers will include New Mexico Historic Preservation Division Historian Gretchen Brock, who deals with architectural issues surrounding proposed structures in historic areas; and District Fire Chief Daniel Coyne.  Ms. Brock will speak on the role and perspective of the State Historical Preservation Office (SHPO) concerning the proposed AT&T cell tower in the Village of Cerrillos.  Regarding this proposed tower, SHPO has already recorded a finding of Adverse Visual and Direct Effects to the Los Cerrillos Historical District with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).  She will expand on that finding and explain what authority SHPO has and does not have in regards to this matter.

Our newly appointed District Fire Chief Daniel Coyne will also join us to discuss the importance and needs of volunteer fire departments in our area.  The two volunteer fire districts in this area, Turquoise Trail and Madrid, are in need of additional volunteers.  As Chief Coyne will explain, becoming a volunteer does not mean that you are signing up to run into a burning building.  These Districts, which serve and protect our communities have need for administrative assistance, mechanical assistance, grant writing, fund raising, and a variety of other non-firefighting roles.  Filling these positions allows the trained and qualified firefighters and EMT’s to devote their time to calls for emergency services.  Of course, Chief Coyne is seeking more front line firefighter and EMS volunteers as well.
